As both me and my partner Ana mentioned in our separate first research and planning post, we want to target Sylk Magazine towards women of all ages. In order to understand our audience better and to have a sort of guidance for our future decisions regarding the style and content of our magazine, we decided to create (together) a questionnaire, using Google Forms, a survey administration software. We then sent it to many people, who were chosen randomly.
Take a look at our questionnaire by clicking here. We chose our questions carefully, making sure that we were asking everything that we needed. Below, you can see our responses.
*It is important to note that the response chart for the 'Where are you from?' question is not accurate. People who were from Romania or Germany were put in different categories according to the way in which they spelled the country's name (wether they used capital letters or not). Therefore, the correct percentages for this question are:
Romania 72.8 %
Germany 18.2 %
USA 91 %
Also, please take into consideration the fact that since both me and Ana are Romanian and we also live there, it was harder for us to find people from other places around the world to send it to. We also didn't want our questionnaire to be sent to people we didn't know at all because they might find the email asking them to fill in the questionnaire to be rude.*
The responses to our other questions showed us that our audience may be younger and more interested in:
artistic fashion and lifestyle magazines,
a mixture of both informative articles and visually entertaining content,
contemporary social issues portrayed though fashion photography,
both printed and online magazines,
accessing an online website for the magazine,
willing to pay 5-10 euros ,
minimalistic covers,
browsing another social media outlet such as Pinterest.
Both Ana and I are satisfied with the results that we got and we've decided to continue with the genres chosen initially, fashion and lifestyle, while taking into consideration the results that we got. We will try to focus on bringing out the artistic side of both fashion and lifestyle in our photography and overall vibe of Sylk Magazine. We are currently thinking of creating an online version of Sylk Magazine or a website, but this is something that we will work in our next step: coursework development. Along with this, we also want to create a Pinterest page for Sylk Magazine in order to connect with our audience more and to make our magazine more well known on different social media platforms. Regarding the magazine's content, we want to include articles about many topics, some of which contemporary social issues, in order to bring awareness on certain important matters and to educate our audience. As for the cover design and house style, we will keep coming up with ideas, but we'll only finalise it in our coursework development.
